Usually cats clean themselves many times a day. But she'll need a little help from you, sometimes. Grooming a cat to not just look them fashionable but it's a good way to know about your cat's health, any illness etc.

How to groom a cat :

  • Brushing : Cats can have short or long hair. Cats clean their hair themselves but if you do it properly then it will help remove dirt, dead hair, fleas preventing the mats. Brush once or twice a week will be enough for a healthy, glowing coat. There are cat-specific combs available in the market, make use of that. Always brush your cat gently. You can do so when she is sleeping or sitting in your lap.
  • Trimming : Not all cats needs hair trimming, but if your cat has long coat/fur, you should think of trimming her hair with cat-specific trimmer. Do not trim harshly, but gently. If it seems difficult to trim, you can hire a professional groomer for this task.
  • Bathing : Usually, cats bath themselves with their tongue and teeth. But sometimes, the cat coat becomes sticky or dirty which requires a good bath. Use a shampoo which is mild and does not become harsh on cat's skin. Use warm water instead of very hot or cold. Make sure, there is no shampoo left in cat's hair else it will become itchy.
  • Nail : Your cat will not accept a direct nail clipping session. You will need to do a foot massage daily and slowly start nail clipping process. A sharp, high quality nail clipper is available in the market. Make sure to use that. Do it gently and slowly. Do not get in hurry and injure your cat.

As you agree, cat grooming is not always easy. Some people may need a professional help in many of the above tasks. It may take time, but at the end you will surely learn how to groom your cat at home without any expenses. You can opt for grooming tips from professionals.

Cleaning and Hygienic care both things comes under Dog Grooming. Keeping your dog clean is an important part in increasing their lifespan. Irrespective of the breeds, all dogs requires grooming regularly.

When you groom your dog regularly, it helps strengthen the relationship between you two.

Reasons for grooming :
  • routine cleanliness
  • decrease the chances of any unusual illness
  • develops a strong bond between you and your pet
  • dog look pretty
If you've not yet started the grooming process, you can start now. But keep in mind, don't rush. Be patient. You need to start the proceed slowly and go on adding more, once you see your dog is accepting what your are offering. Always remember, to make the whole process fun without getting frustrated. Take your dog to a professional groomer, if needed.

Excited to begin? Here are few simple tips on how to complete the whole process.
  • Brushing : Brush your dog twice a week, irrespective of the coat length. Brushing helps remove hair mats or help your dog shed seasonal coat. Brushing it may be just for general purpose. Remember, to use right brush. Some brushes are only for general purposes while other have specific use.
  • Bathing : Decide the frequency of the bath to your dog. Bathing frequently will dry out his skin and take away essential oil from the skin. So once or twice a month is enough for a good bath. Use warm water instead of hot water to bath your dog. There are different types of shampoos and conditioners available in the market. Always use shampoo by mixing it with warm water. Do not apply shampoo directly on the skin. It may be very harsh on the skin.
  • Nail Trimming : Dog's nails usually grow curved so it becomes very painful when they walk. Always keep an eye on your dog's nails. Whenever you find the growth, cut them or trim them. Else it will be more difficult to cut them properly. Owners can trim or cut the nail by their own or take their pets to a professional groomer.
  • Teeth care : Dogs can also suffer with severe dental problems. They may suffer with cavities, gum diseases etc. Taking proper care of their teeth is very  essential for good oral hygiene. Cleaning teethes 2 - 3 times a week can be an ideal time to keep away your dog from any health issues. Do not directly use brush on your dog's teeth. Start with a finger massage on gums and slowly turn to a right kind of brush. Use a toothpaste which is made only for dog. Clean only the outside surface of dog's teeth.
  • Ear Cleaning : Dog's ears can get infected with fleas or wood ticks. So cleaning the dog's ear once a week is recommended. Use a cotton ball with a cleaning solution to clear the inside surface of your dog's ear. Never put anything down in the ear, else it will cause an ear injury. Take proper care if you see any dirty smell or any unusual discharge coming out of the ear.
There are professional groomer available in the market. You can take your pets to them for proper grooming. But if you want to save few bucks, you can always try these methods at home.  Start with less and increase slowly. You can ask for dog grooming tips before you start the process.

Proper grooming is always results in a healthier and happier pet.

Everyone knows there are hundreds of stray cattle roaming on the road in India. Road traffics or blocks are often caused by these animals with road accidents. A serious problem has been arises due to these stray cattle roaming freely on the streets.

At night, this problems becomes worst as the drivers are unable to spot these animals due to darkness. Normally vehicles move at a high speed hence creating a risk of lives to the occupants and these animals, too.

Cows roaming on the road are not healthy. They don;t get grass or other hygienic food to consume. They survive on the food present in garbage and leftovers. This increases the risk of disease or sickness to the cow. Eating meat of such animals and drinking milk can be more dangerous to our health.

These cows comes from illegal or unregistered roadside diaries or cattle shed. Many comes by actually left by their owners due to old age, stop giving milk or owner cannot afford them anymore.

State government initiatives for this issue :

  • Uttar Pradesh is in the process of setting up 5 cow sanctuaries besides 426 Gaushalas which are already built up.

  • Rajsthan state government is spending Rs. 50 per cattle per day to any one for the good living of stray cattle.

  • Delhi government hired 150 cow catchers who will catch 10 cows per day.

Solution :

  • Dairies should be built outside the city.

  • Creating huge Gaushalas which can tale care of these street cows.

A woman in the group of American tourists visiting Amber fort near Jaipur filed a complaint with PETA. A group of eight men including Mahout, was beating an elephant, who tried to escape from the discomfort of carrying tourist uphill in extreme heat.

Jaipur is very common for excessive violence with elephants. A detailed research of elephants, used in rides and other tourists activities , organized by experienced veterinarians animal-welfare experts from PETA, Wildlife SOS, Animal Rahat in Kerala concluded that many elephants are weak, ill due to lack of food. All elephants suffered from physical ailments. Their owners do not have valid ownership certificate.

P.C. - PETA INDIA

The Honorable high court of Kerala, made it mandatory to register the elephants, used in rides, with AWBI (Animal Welfare Board of India). In spite this, none of the elephants used in rides in Jaipur are registered with AWBI.

Elephants in kerala are in much pain. Even the Mahouts beat them with iron-tipped wooden sticks, spiked chains, even pierce their sensitive ears and drills holes into their tusks.

Elephants usually walks upto 50 kilometers daily for food, but these captive elephants are constantly chained and forced to stand at one place causing foot problems. Visually impaired or injured elephants also forced to carry people under sun blaze.

Beating elephants, giving them painful injuries is really cruel. Usually Mothers do not wean baby elephants until they are 10 years old but these cruel captors separate them at the age of 3 years only.

Join PETA in calling on authorities in Jaipur to protect one of India's most sacred animals by putting an end to all elephant rides in the area immediately.

Put an end to elephant rides in Jaipur.

There are thousands of homeless animals in every shelter. Majority are young and healthy. It's really heartbreaking but there are many ways to do something for them without spending money and without leaving the home, too.

Ways To Help Homeless Pets :

  1. Don't buy, Choose adoption : If you're thinking to buy any pet, choose adoption first. There are thousands of homeless pets waiting to get their forever home and with a little research you can find a suitable pet for your home. Adopting from a shelter is like saving two lives. First one is of course, the pet you are adopting. And making a space for a new in shelter.

  1. Educate : Get complete knowledge and educate other people on the importance of adopting a homeless pet. How can they help save lives by just adopting a pet.
  2. Donate supplies : If you don't have a budget to sponsor any cash to shelter, you can donate supplies which are just there at your home. Just like a blanket, towel. Shelters use these blankets for animals to sleep or rest. You can even offer food, animal toys and other pet supplies.
  3. Social media help : The local shelter has many animals which are waiting to get a new home. You can upload their profiles which will help them get a lovely, forever home. If you have anyone looking to buy a pet, ask them to visit the shelter and adopt a lovely pet as per their needs. Such a small help will certainly change their life.
  4. Foster : There are many animals in a shelter and the space is less. You can foster a dog or cat till they find their forever home.
  5. Volunteer : Spend time in your local shelter by helping them fill food bowls, give fresh water, get animals to a walk, grooming and more.

Be sure to care for homeless animals by not creating more homeless animals. Give time, love to your own pets. Care for them.

Animal shelters are overflowing with dogs, cats. These animals are waiting to get a new, loving home. But the basic questions is why these animals gets abandoned?

After a lot of research and from my own experience, i found the main reasons for abandoning animals are :

  • Moving to a new home
  • Pets are not allowed by new landlords
  • No space in new home for pets
  • Allergy if any new member joins the family
  • Personal problems
  • No time to take care of pets
  • Pet illness
  • Biting
  • Maintenance not affordable
Many a times, owners left animals alone in the room itself while moving. They get noticed after the four closer process, when the realtor or bank enters the home. These animals may die due to lack of food and water, some though survive but with a poor condition.

Behavioral problem is the main reason for dogs to get abandoned. This may be biting or aggression. But these are common issues like barking. Most of the issues may get fixed, but owners do not know this, due to lack of knowledge.

Would you leave your own child in old apartment when moving to a new home? Definitely, NO.
Then why these poor animals get this type of treatment after being loyal to you. They trust on you. Where would they go? They really gets confused, what to do without you.

If you've any new member joining your family and having allergy, always remember, allergy can get treated. This is not fare to abandoned your own pet for such a small reason.

Through outreach and education, we can reduce the number of animals coming to animal shelters. Many shelters do have printed information on how to easily cope up with adopted animals behavioral problems. Some shelters do provide phone support to go through this problem. Being an animal caregiver, you should give your 100% commitment to your pet. Shelters helps educate people for this.

Before adopting any pet, you should really think on how you will handle the behavioral issues. You can take the help of shelter people. This will certainly help reduce animals to get abandoned.

Write to me, if you know anyone who have abandoned their pets. What are the ways to prevent it from your point of view.

In every country, except China, Dogs can be police officers, service dogs, emotional support for abused children, a child's best friend, a family's loyal pet and more.

China, Yulin conduct dog meat festival every year. This festival starts in summer on 21st June every year which lasts for 10 days where more than 10,000 dogs including pups get consumed.  Large number of dogs are stolen from their loving families, rest are stray dogs and the dogs raised in dog farm.

These dogs are forced to travel without food and water, in a tight cage, for days one over the other where they can't even move a bit. At Yulin, these dogs are hanged, burned, skinned, boiled, torched and beaten that too ALIVE. This all goes on the streets in front of public. Moreover, they tortured these poor animals in front of other animals so that they get stressed and feared.

The belief behind this torture is while they are still ALIVE, more the animals have run fear through their blood, more tasty their meat will be.  It also gives the men more sexual stamina, keep them cook during the hot summer.

The tradition of eating dog meat is around 400 years old. Dog meat traders started this event to boost up the business.

Animal welfare activist have been trying for years to get this horrible tradition banned. Unfortunately, government of China is giving some reasons to avoid this ban. We need to send the petition to the old generation people, who still believe in this tradition of eating dog meat.

We are the 20th century generation and we believe that this act is cruel and inhuman. The poor animals do not deserve this type of treatment and millions of people across all the countries are against of it.

We should boycott Chinese products until they ban this act.

Sign this petition to convince China's government, how cruel this act is. And they should better ban this festival.

India has the largest number of street dogs, which are roaming freely on the road. Most of these dogs belongs to ancient canine family known as Pariah Dog, which is there all over Asia and Africa.

These dogs live on garbage created by humans. The dogs are often kept as pets by rural and urban slum people.

To control the population, sterilization is the best method, i guess. NGOs should invest a little more time in spaying and neutering, which reduce the overall population of stray dogs in country.

Adopt, Don't Buy :

Nowadays, we all can see one statement that Don't Buy. Adopt. And that is very much correct. Stray dogs/pups needs your love. They are much loyal than any other dog breed. Then why are you wasting your money for a foreign dog breed. Go and adopt a street dog. He will be much more happy to have a lifelong home, loving parents.

Some steps we can take to reduce the suffering on street :

  1. All dogs in a particular area should be sterilized. This way we can reduce the number of newborn pups.
  2. There should be some responsible person in every area, who will ensure any new dog who comes in is sterilized.
  3. Individual people should take active part in sterilization process instead of being dependent on any organization or NGO.

If all humans put an effort to help in any of the way mentioned above, our country will be the much better place for strays.

Hats off to Peta India Movement ! They finally did it.

After being chained for 51 long years, Gajraj - a 63- year old bull elephant - has been successfully rescued from his chains. Gajraj was kept as a tourist attraction at Bhavani Museum and Yamai Devi temple at Satara.

Gajraj was kept isolated receiving abusive treatment in these 50 years.  After the inspection by Wildlife SOS veterinarians, Gajraj is suffered from toenail abscesses in his legs and it may spread to the bone. Both of his foot pads shows severe degeneration, which could make him severely lame.

But now, he will receive good treatment and will start getting company with his fellow elephants.

More than 200,000 supporters from PETA India helped Gajraj to have his life back. But the rescue was not as easy as it is seen. Hundreds of villagers and his mahuts showed an objection even threatened mass suicide. But on examining Gajraj's situation, under Maharashtra-government's notice, a veterinarians team confirmed varies injuries and an untreated abscesses on his hinds and elbows.

Sources said that, Gajraj was taken to the place when he was 12 years old from MP 800 kilometers away which took almost a month and a half.

Now Gajraj will be in safest place where he can roam anywhere without chains, bath in river and be in the company of another fellow elephants.

Thanks to Peta India.

Gajraj, a 63 year old ailing elephant, has been held captive for 51 years. There is a special movement to to get Gajraj FREE and move him to a good shelter, where he can spend his last few years safely, happily.

The poor elephant has been chained for 51 years near Shri Bhavani Museum and Yamai Devi Temple in Aundh, Maharashtra. He is currently not in good condition. After years of abuse, neglect and exploitation he is slowly succumbing to his illness. It's really shameful to left him in pain to die alone by his mahuts just because he is too sick and old and not able to work more for them.

He has kept constantly chained because of this he has developed many injuries. He suffers from broken and overgrown toenails on all four feet. He tries to get rid of chain but unable to, leading severe injuries.
Someone even chopped off his tusks without any legal permission.

Gajraj is not a tourist spot. He is living there lonely and should get FREE from there immediately.

Maharashtra Forest Department should immediately take an action and release Gajraj to a safer elephant care shelter where he can get proper treatment.

Kindly help Gajraj by signing this petition so that  he will live rest of his life free from chains.
